Jose Manuel BARROSO, President of the European Commission
Jose Manuel Barroso has for years been one of the most prominent figures of the EPP. He served as PSD leader and EPP Vice President before being elected as Prime Minister of Portugal. When the EPP won the 2004 European elections, the Party successfully nominated Barroso as President of the European Commission. In 2009, the EPP won again the European elections and nominated successfully Barroso for a second term as Commission President. Barroso is a regular participant of the EPP Summit and is an ex officio member of EPP Presidency.
