EPP Agriculture ministers met today in Luxembourg to prepare the upcoming Agriculture and Fisheries Council. The meeting was co-chaired by Sari ESSAYAH, Finnish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, and Konstantinos TSIARAS, Greek Minister of Agricultural Development and Food. The Chairs welcomed the Minister of Agriculture of the Netherlands, Femke Marije WIERSMA to the EPP family. The Ministers followed-up on their discussion of the EPP priorities for the future of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post 2027. The Ministers agreed on the importance of the two-Pillar structure of CAP. EPP ministers will present a common position on the priorities to the newly sworn-in European Commission in December. They further explored ways to tackle the challenges of the EU food chain, while ensuring a steady supply of safe and nutritious food for EU citizens. The simplification of the administrative burden, a decent income for farmers and the high quality of food constitute the basis for a resilient and competitive European agriculture. Participants finally discussed the need for more efficient crisis management with regards to extreme weather conditions, by pointing to the recent wildfires in Portugal or the ongoing war in Ukraine.
