EPP Finance Ministers, co-chaired by Paschal DONOHOE, Minister of Public Expenditure of Ireland and President of the Eurogroup, and Valdis DOMBROVSKIS, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission met this morning in Brussels to prepare today’s Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) agenda. They welcomed Minister of State and Finance of Portugal, Joaquim MIRANDA SARMENTO, in the EPP family. Ministers then discussed the situation in the member states ahead of the European Elections, the G20 and IMF outcome of 17-19 April, as well as the state of play of the economic and financial impact of the Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Moreover, they sought conclusions on the fiscal sustainability challenges arising from ageing - a follow-up of the joint debate of EPP Ministers of Finance (ECOFIN) with Ministers of Employment (EPSCO) of 12 March (Ageing report 2024)- as well as conclusions on how to improve the financial literacy of the citizens to help them make more informed choices and to encourage them to invest on European financial markets, being one of the agenda points suggested by the Belgian Presidency.
