EPP Home Affairs and Migration Ministers met this evening in Luxembourg, chaired by European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas, to prepare for tomorrow's Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council. The EPP Ministers discussed extensively the developments following Hamas' attacks on Israel and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza. They agreed that the EU must put in place effective measures to manage the security implications for Europe. Participants exchanged views on the external dimension of migration, emphasising the need to continue increasing engagement with third countries. Ministers also agreed on the necessity of instigating global efforts to combat migrant smuggling. Lastly, ministers discussed the state of play of the Schengen area.
