Members of the Political Assembly of the European People’s Party gathered in Valletta, Malta, on 21-22 November, hosted by our member party Partit Nazzjonalista (PN). The meeting was chaired by EPP President Manfred WEBER and EPP Secretary General Thanasis BAKOLAS. The Political Assembly opened with introductory interventions by President Weber and by the President of PN Bernard GRECH. EPP President Weber spoke extensively about developments following EPP’s successful results in the European elections in June. He also explained the recent agreement between the political groups in the European Parliament about the commissioners-designate ahead of the upcoming vote in the Plenary in Strasbourg, approving the European Commission as a whole. The Political Assembly also featured two panel discussions. The first took place under the headline “The EPP in the Mediterranean” and was moderated by EPP Vice-President David McALLISTER. Participants exchanged views on our common priorities in the Mediterranean region, in the presence of our new Commissioner-designate for the Mediterranean Dubravka ŠUICA and leaders from EPP member-parties from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. A second panel discussion on “Quality of life at the expense of economic growth” was moderated by EPP Vice-President Mariya GABRIEL. It featured an exchange of views on how pursuing economic growth and competitiveness can be bridged with safeguarding critical aspects of our quality of life, such as education, housing or even mental health. Lastly, the Political Assembly adopted the following four resolutions: • “EPP in the Mediterranean: Renewed partnership based on common interest and mutual trust” EPP Women Priorities for the European Commission 2024-2029Resolution on AlbaniaEmergency resolution “On the occasion of the 1000th day from the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine”
